How to install Heat on non-default directory/drive

NASCAR Heat needs to be installed to the default folder. No way around this, unfortunatly.

This can be annoying, so it would be nice to be able to make Heat run from somewhere else - especially from some other partition or harddrive. And indeed there's a way to make Heat run at least the major part of it's files from another harddrive

Even so, first thing to do is to install Nascar Heat to it's default folder, which should be somewhat like

  • C:\Program Files\Hasbro Interactive\Nascar Heat
This isn't just recommended, it's a must !
Heat's executable and some basic files simply won't run if located elsewhere.

Next thing to do is installing updates and NO-CD patch. Unless you run Heat Essentials, as these are already updated

  • Now create a folder of your choice. (for example d:\nheat)
  • Create d:\nheat\data too
  • Move all the track (*.TRK) files from C:\Program Files\Hasbro Interactive\Nascar Heat\run to d:\nheat\data
  • Open up windows registry with regedit
  • Check for HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Hasbro Interactive\NASCAR Heat
  • That one has a key DataDirectory, that you now should set to D:\NHeat\Data\
  • If now you want to install a mod, install it to d:\nheat.
Heat's executable however will only start when located in it's default directory, but you can now put all the stuff that eats up your HD space to d: (or where you want to put the Heat stuff to)
